Minceraft, A Post Mortem
We've tried including secrets to the sport earlier than. Small issues, like obscure crafting recipes or bizarre habits, and every thing at all times will get figured out immediately. Regardless of how obscure we make a brand new function, it is absolutely documented inside hours of a brand new launch. This is awesome, and an important example of how devoted some Minecraft gamers are, nevertheless it additionally means we won't really disguise anything good in the sport even if we tried.
So some time ago, I did some intentionally obscure code in the title display to change two letters round, making it say "Minceraft" (old operating gag, there's even a "minceraft" mockup t shirt design we did) instead of "Minecraft" on every 10000th game launch or so, and no one found it! I was so happy about that, I lastly knew something about the sport the gamers did not know.
Flash forward to this GDC a few days ago, I'm doing an interview with Chris Hecker, and he asks me if there's something no person has found in the sport, and i say yes. I should've said no, however I stated yes. Then I start getting emails and tweets about it, people begin getting excited, and realizing how minor the secret is, I attempt to tell folks it's a really minor secret. That appears to gas the flames. Minecraft Gamemodes A reporter from a well known gaming site needs to run an article on it, and i inform him not to. Getting folks hyped up about an intentional typo is not actually an excellent strategy to spend everyone's time.
There's a whole lot of cool stuff to learn from this, although. One is that it Is feasible to cover stuff in plain sight, but as soon as individuals go searching for it, they'll discover it. One other thing is that individuals appear to want to get excited over things, even if you inform them it is nothing main.
I am impressed and relieved you discovered it. I won't touch upon it exterior of this subreddit.
